One Ring to Rule Them All

Onion rings, I love them. It's tough to make a bad onion ring. I guess you could overcook them. One time I got dark brown almost black onion rings, yes, I ate them, (very crunchy.)  

Months ago, I asked where to find the best onion rings on the air and I received lots of answers. One was Larry’s Drive-In on rock island road in East Wenatchee. Larry’s Drive-In was opened by Larry Johnson in 1954. Larry sold the business to Royce Landers In the mid-’60s, Gary Nunn owned Larry’s from 1991, William Graves since 2018, and now Mark Mecham Sr. Since 2021.  

The one thing that Larry’s drive-in is known for is boneless chicken, (and it is awesome) but no one ever said to me, "go to Larry’s for the onion rings". I had to go try them out.

 I’m a sucker for beer-battered anything so my onion rings need to be dipped in beer batter, then fried, golden brown, and delicious, No dipping sauce, no catsup, mustard, or mayo. Larry’s wins on boneless chicken, not onion rings.  

Another good spot is Bernie’s Burgers and Suds at 603, North Wenatchee Avenue. I remember when that location was an Arctic Circle Drive-in. Then it was Buddy’s for a long time, now it’s Bernie’s and the onion rings are great.  

I've had onion rings at Bob’s Classic, Red Robbin, and Denny’s but I wanted to focus on drive-in food. Is there a fast-food location that has better onion rings? I think I have to go with Bernie’s Burgers and Suds. But you know what, I’m willing to try them anywhere.
